Unfortunately, many little swimmers often come to the pool with a limited view of their own abilities. Before we can really begin to ‘push’ little swimmers we have to remove those limitations from their minds and instill a belief in their own abilities. Because without this belief, little swimmers are not likely to succeed.

Goal setting is an important tool in eliminating limitations and motivating little swimmers to do their best. Often attributed to business and athletics, goal setting isn’t just for grown-ups anymore.

SafeSplash Austin on the 5 o'clock News for the World's Largest Swim Lesson

"In 2014, a survey completed by the American Red Cross found that more than half of all Americans (54 percent) either can't swim or don't have all of the basic swimming skills." - The World's Largest Swimming Lesson

SafeSplash Austin participated in the annual "World's Largest Swimming Lesson" this week. The event, originally created by the World Waterpark Association in 2010, aims to highlight the importance of swimming lessons as a "life-saving skill for children and a vital tool to prevent drowning, the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for U.S. children ages 1-14" explains the organization.

We all have certain needs that we strive to meet. Your little swimmers are no exception. In his famous Hierarchy of Needs, Abraham Maslow's identified 5 needs and explained how these needs motivate us all. According to Maslow, a student’s basic needs of physical and emotional well-being must be met before the student can begin to learn and achieve their potential. So, let’s start with the most basic needs and how they relate to swimming lessons.
