The Swim School Industry: Consistent Demand

Parents don't think of swim lessons as an extra. They think of them as a safety requirement, right alongside car seats and bike helmets. That mindset is what makes swim instruction one of the more resilient categories in youth enrichment.

Why do parents treat swim lessons as essential?

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 and a leading cause of unintentional death for older children, according to the CDC. CDC researchers have found that formal swim lessons lower drowning risk, and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends swim lessons for most children starting around age 1. Parents act on that guidance.*

Is the swim school business seasonal?

Yes, somewhat. Summer is the busiest season, as it is across the swim category. Indoor heated pools let families continue lessons through the school year, and multi-level progression gives them a reason to stay enrolled.

How does a swim school make money?

Swim schools earn most of their revenue from recurring weekly lessons, with families enrolling on an ongoing basis as children progress through skill levels. Additional revenue comes from private and semi-private lessons, birthday parties, swim camps, adult lessons, and retail. SafeSplash serves children of all ages starting from six months, plus adults.

Why franchise instead of opening an independent swim school?

The swim lesson market is fragmented, served by independent schools, recreation centers, and private instructors. A franchise gives you a recognized brand, a tested curriculum, instructor training, enrollment software, and site selection support from day one, so you aren't building those systems yourself while also trying to fill classes.
