Have a Kid's Party Coming Up? Plan a Swim Party!

Pool parties are a ton of fun. What kid doesn't love the opportunity to splash around with friends? And with the right prep work, you can make any pool party memorable. Here are some activity and snack ideas to jazz up the event.

7 Exciting Pool Party Games and Activities

Kids will surely be hyped up to jump into the water and have fun. But if you don't plan specific games for them to play, they might get bored. And bored children usually mean one thing: they'll make their own fun, perhaps in not-so-safe ways. These games are bound to keep them entertained for hours.

1. Treasure dive

Toss colorful rings into the swimming pool and tell kids to dive and get them. Make it into a competition by rewarding whoever gets the most rings.

2. Pool basketball

Place a hoop on either side of the pool and split pool-goers into two teams. Whichever team scores the most points win. It's simple but entertaining fun for kids of all ages.

3. Float races

Cheer up a birthday pool party with a little competition. Get long floats and tell kids whoever paddles across the pool first wins.

4. Water tag

Here's a unique kid's pool party game: water tag. It's almost the same as a regular game of tag, but with a water sponge. Alternatively, you could set up a team game of water dodge.

5. Relay races

Relay races are great for kids who are more confident swimmers. Split children into teams and have them swim laps. You can change things up by asking them to swim in a specific style or only underwater.

6. Prize ball

Take a bunch of colorful balls and mark just one with a small, discreet black star. Then, toss them into the pool and have kids go on a scavenger hunt. Whoever finds the unique ball wins.

7. Skill classes

Not all kids at a pool party will be confident swimmers, but they'll be eager to learn! Now is the right time to teach them. From the most basic swimming movements to the more advanced swimming strokes, there's plenty to learn. Kids who are more introverted and would rather stay away from over-the-top games will probably love this activity.

Food Ideas for a Kid's Pool Party

Keep your party-goers energized with these humble (but delicious) snacks. The best swim party food is easy to serve, easy to eat, light, and simple enough to please picky eaters.

  • Mini sandwiches.
  • Savory snack mix.
  • Pigs in a blanket.
  • Watermelon "pizza" wedges.
  • Jello cups.

No Fun Party Without Water Safety Rules

You can't have a fun swim party without laying down some ground rules. As you're welcoming all the kids, sit them down and explain pool safety. Here are some water safety ideas:

  1. No running outside the pool.
  2. Wear life vests if you're not a great swimmer.
  3. Stay near adults and don't venture out on your own.
  4. No jumps or crazy dives unless supervised.
  5. Always listen to adults and follow their rules.

Of course, getting children to focus when they're so excited might be hard, but it's worth it. Try making this bit interactive so they pay closer attention.

Memorable Parties Aren't So Hard to Plan

Planning a big pool blowout is a surefire way to delight kids. It's also a great opportunity to promote swimming lessons and activities with parents. If their children had fun at the pool, why not bring them over often for healthy screen-free fun?
