Our Curriculum


The curriculum we teach at SafeSplash Swim School has been developed to optimize your child’s development and retention of water safety and swimming skills. We focus our curriculum on the three broad areas of introduction to water and water safety, basic swimming skills and competitive swimming technique.



Introduction to the Water

Parent-n-me I 6 to 18 months 6 students
per instructor
Introduction to the water with a focus on safety & primary water skills including submersion, bubbles, water play in a fun, family environment.

Rainbow
Pink
18 months to 3 years 6 students
per instructor
Introduction to the water with safety and basic water skills in mind.  We will start to teach these kids the same skills they will learn in the level 1& 2A classes.
Level 1
Pink
3 to 6 years 4 students
per instructor
  • Get into the pool up to necks
  • Dip both ears in the pool
  • Lay head back in the water (ears in the water)
  • Attempt to blow bubbles
  • Wear goggles
  • Wear fins
  • Put all of or part their face into water
Level 2A
Turquoise
3 to 6 years 4 students
per instructor
  • Wear goggles &  fins
  • Go completely underwater
  • Blows bubbles
  • Tummy float with help
  • Back float with help
  • Kick on steps w/fins
  • Pick up ring(s) off step
  • Climb out of pool with help
Level 2B
Orange
3 to 6 years 4 students
per instructor
  • Wear goggles &  fins
  • 10 bobs w/bubbles & breath
  • Tummy float independently
  • Back float independently
  • Kicks, digs & bubbles width of pool on dumbbell
  • Front glide, streamline & kick 10 feet
  • Back glide, streamline & kick 10 feet

Basic Swimming Skills

Level 3
Green
4 to 10 years 4 students
per instructor
  • 15 bobs
  • Kicks & digs width of pool w/at least 2 pop-up breaths
  • Big arm freestyle width of pool w/pop-up breaths
  • Kicks & side breathing on kickboard
  • Surface dive (assisted in shallow water)
  • Big arms & side breathing starting to look like freestyle.
  • Treading water for 30 seconds
  • Long shallow dive
Level 4
Yellow
4 to 10 years 4 students
per instructor
  • Introduction to sidestroke
  • Elementary backstroke width of pool
  • Freestyle w/side breathing - length of pool
  • Surface dive to bottom of deep end (assisted)
  • Jump in, swim width of pool freestyle & climb out
  • Introduction to dolphin kick
  • Introduction to big arm backstroke
  • Swim 1/2+ width of pool underwater
Level 5
Purple
4 to 10 years 4 students
per instructor
  • Sidestroke width of pool
  • Elementary backstroke length of pool
  • Freestyle one length w/alternate breathing
  • Backstroke width of pool
  • Introduction to breaststroke
  • Intro to deep water bobs (5x off the bottom)
  • Swim width of pool underwater
  • Dolphin kick on kickboard width of pool

  • Butterfly width of pool
  • Tread water 5 minutes
  • Intro to breaststroke/butterfly turn
Level 8
Blue
5 to 14 years 4 students
per instructor
  • Strokes must comply with USA Swimming rules & guidelines.
  • Shallow racing dive off starting block
  • Backstroke start off starting block
  • Individual medley turns
